We are now very much pleased with the improvement of the relations between mainland China and the island of Taiwan since Mr. Ma Ying-jeou took over the leadership in Taiwan in May, 2008. Both sides are now committed to follow the ǒ9/2 agreementō based on the ǒOne Chinaō principle. Authorized by mainland China and the island of Taiwan respectively, the Straits Exchange Foundation (ǒSEFō) and the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Strait (ǒARATSō) have started dialogues and negotiations and successfully reached several agreements, which benefit the people on both sides. We believe you and your colleagues have also shared the contentment of the peaceful talks and improved relations across the strait, and will continue to support the ǒOne Chinaō policy which has been the solid basis of a good US-Sino relation for many years. We will need your support in China’s eventual peaceful reunification and in the strengthening the healthy and friendly relationship between China and the United States.
