As you know, the relations between mainland China and the island of Taiwan have improved significantly during the past one year and half, which has greatly benefitted the people on both sides. During President Obama’s visit to China, the United States and China issued a Joint Statement, in which the United States maintains that ǒit follows its one China policy and abides by the principles of the three U.S.-China joint communiqu□. The United States welcomes the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait and looks forward to efforts by both sides to increase dialogues and interactions in economic, political, and other fields, and develop more positive and stable cross-Strait relations.ō We hope that you and your colleagues will share these views and the commitment to peaceful talks and improved relations across the strait, which is beneficial to the US national interest, and to the peace in the region and worldwide because ǒOne Chinaō policy has been the solid basis of a good US-Sino relationship for many years.
