英文原文﹕ President Barack Obama The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 February 12, 2010 The Honorable President Barack Obama: We are members of the Chinese-American Community in the United States and we are writing to express our disappointment in your decision to meet with Dalai Lama at the White House on February 18, 2010. As you may well know, Dalai Lama has never been a true Buddhist. He was the head of the ruling class in a society with a serfdom system, under which slaves suffered the same fate as American slaves before the American Civil War. Since the end of the serfdom system in Tibet in 1959, Dalai Lama has been unceasingly engaged in secessionist activities and has been behind violent riots in Tibet and elsewhere. In fact, no country in the world, including the United States, will permit secessionist activities, because this is a solemn issue of state sovereignty and territorial integrity and is critically related to the core interest of any nation. And this is why the Chinese people in China and elsewhere in the world express concerns and indignation about Dalai Lama’s secessionist activities. A healthy and good relationship between the United States and China nowadays has become increasingly important in order for both countries to face the many common global challenges such as the economic recovery, global climate warming issue, nuclear weapons proliferation, peace in the Korea Peninsula, and global terrorism. The strategic long-term cooperation and mutual support between the United States and China in world affairs has proved to be beneficial to both countries. A mature relationship between the two counties must be based on the mutual respect without impairing the core interest of the other side, particularly issues of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity. Your meeting with Dalai Lama will send a wrong signal to the Tibetan secessionists. It will encourage Dalai Lama and his followers to be more active in stirring up riots in Tibet and elsewhere. And it is certain to do great damage to the U.S.-Sino relations. It is for this reason that we write to you to express our concerns and our strong opposition to your meeting with Dalai Lama. We hope that you will be guided by your good conscience instead of political convenience, and this meeting will be canceled immediately. Only so can you protect our nation’ s long-term interest. Thank you very much for your considerations. Sincerely yours, Huiqiu Wu, Ph.
